The fifth and last stage comes when you move from success to Significance. When you shift from success to significance it is no longer just about you. It is no longer about what you want to have. It is not what you want to own, or what luxury car you want to drive or how big of a house you want to own. This is the basis of building significance: putting others before self.

第五个也是最后一个阶段是当你从成功走向意义。当你从成功转变为意义时，它不再仅仅是关于你。它不再是你想要什么，不再是你想拥有什么，不是你想开什么豪车，也不是你想拥有多大的房子。这是建立意义的基础：把别人放在自己之前。

 

Significance arrives when you realize that what you do is much more important and bigger than you. It is about how you impact, help and change others, it is about your legacy, it is about what you want to leave behind when you retire. It is about what you want to be known for after you are gone.

当你意识到自己做的事情比自己重要得多、大得多的时候，意义就到了。 它与你如何影响、帮助和改变他人有关，与你的遗产有关，与你退休时想要留下的东西有关。这是关于你离开后想要被别人知道的事情。

 

There are simple basic differences between success and significance, I encourage people to pursue significance. Why? Because in doing so, you will inevitably cross paths with and enjoy success. Here are some differences:

成功和意义之间有简单的基本区别，我鼓励人们追求意义。为什么？因为这样做，你将自然而然地与成功相交并享受成功。以下是一些区别：

 

Motives: With success, my motives may be selfish; with significance, my motives cannot be selfish

动机：成功，我的动机可能是自私的；意义，我的动机不可能自私。

 

Influence: With success, my influence is limited; with significance, my influence is unlimited.

影响：成功，我的影响是有限的；意义，我的影响是无限的。

 

Time: Success can last a lifetime; significance can last several lifetimes.

时间：成功可以持续一生；意义可以持续几辈子。

 

Focus: Success asks, “How can I add value to myself?” Significance asks, “How can I add value to others?”

关注点：成功问，“我如何为自己增加价值” ；意义问，“我如何为他人增加价值”。

 

If I pursue success, my joy is the result of my success; If I pursue significance, my joy is the result of others’ success

如果我追求成功，我的快乐是我成功的结果；如果我追求意义，我的快乐是别人成功的结果。

 

Those who have left their mark on history as people we love and admire have done so because they pursued significance. They wanted to help people, not only themselves. They gave of themselves, no matter the cost. In many instances, they poured their own lives out in sacrifice to others. Some became rich, others not, but all of them were fulfilled in their calling. All of them added value in one form or another to many, many people and impacted their lives at a deeper level.

那些作为我们所爱和敬仰的人在历史上留下了他们的印记，是因为他们追求意义。他们想帮助别人，而不仅仅是他们自己。他们奉献自己，不计代价。在许多情况下，他们把自己的生命奉献给别人。有些人发财了，有些人没有，但他们都在自己的使命中得到了满足。他们所有人都以这样或那样的形式为许许多多的人增加了价值，并在更深层次上影响了他们的生命。

So, what stage are you at? What are you doing about it? And Why?

Maybe you're where I was at a few years back. Maybe you're standing at the foot of your mountain, looking at the top and wondering if this is worth it, or even possible. I assure you: it is both worth it and possible!

Will it be easy? No. Will you feel like giving up at times? Yes. But life is only worth living provided we move confidently in the direction of our dreams and build a legacy of significance in the process.
